On August 25, a sports camp on wheelchair rugby for veterans and active-duty service members will kick off in Kyiv, followed by the tournament on August 30–31. Participants can register for both the camp and the tournament, or for either event separately.

The events are organized by the CBA Initiatives Center in partnership with the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine. Registration is open until August 3 via the provided link.

What to Expect at the Camp and Tournament

The sports camp is a five-day program where participants will learn to play wheelchair rugby (and prepare for the competition), try other adaptive sports, and work with physical therapists and massage specialists. There will also be evening recreational activities. The camp runs from August 25 to 29.

The wheelchair rugby tournament will take place on August 30–31. The teams will be mixed, and coaches will form them on-site.

“Rugby is already the third sport for which we’re organizing a camp and tournament for veterans and service members. Previous competitions in sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball brought together nearly 200 players and about 1,000 spectators,” says Taras Kovalyk, head of the Veterans Department at the CBA Initiatives Center.

“During the camp, participants can learn to play wheelchair rugby, try other adaptive sports, and spend time among their peers. At the tournament, they can recharge and find their community. It’s a path to recovery through sport — where physical and psychological rehabilitation are equally important.”
