Ukraine’s First National Wheelchair Basketball Championships to Take Place in Kyiv: How to Attend

The CBA Initiatives Center, in cooperation with the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and with support from EPAM Ukraine, is launching a new initiative — the first National Wheelchair Basketball Championships for veterans and active service members. The event will take place on May 10–11, 2025, in Kyiv. Entry is free and open to all — civilians and military personnel — upon prior registration.

The two-day event will combine wheelchair basketball competition with festival-style activities. On Day 1, eight qualifying matches will be played between veteran teams from different regions of Ukraine. The winners will advance to the playoffs held on Day 2. Guests will be able to watch the matches live at the stadium or via online broadcast on YouTube and in the fan zone.

Throughout the event, visitors will be able to enjoy a large recreation zone featuring a food court, VR and PlayStation spots, a recovery area, and a kids’ playground with workshops, relay games, board games, and other activities. There will also be a dedicated area for guests to learn more about adaptive sports — including archery, rowing, table tennis, and more.

“The uniqueness of this event isn’t just in the sport. We aim to bring defenders together into a welcoming community and create a space where recovery feels comfortable — and that is impossible without mutual support. That’s why we invite everyone: those who want to show appreciation to veterans and active service members, and those who want to explore adaptive sports and have a great time,” — says Taras Kovalyk, Head of the Veterans Department at the CBA Initiatives Center.

Entry is free. However, all attendees must register in advance using this form. For security reasons, the exact location will be shared with registered guests, partners, and media one day before the event.

The CBA Initiatives Center also invites media representatives to attend the event, discover adaptive sports, and learn more about our initiatives. Media representatives are asked to complete the press accreditation form.
