“There was a need to create our own communication platforms”: The CBA Initiatives Center presented in Kyiv

On October 16, 2024, a closed presentation of the CBA Initiatives Center took place in Kyiv. The first event of the organization gathered over 100 guests, including representatives of embassies, government institutions, civil society, and the media.

The CBA Initiatives Center team introduced its mission and key focus areas, presented flagship research and projects from its Analytical and Veteran Departments, and shared plans for 2025.

A new stage in development

The event consisted of two parts. The first featured Vadym Karpiak, member of the Supervisory Board of Come Back Alive, and Oleh Karpenko, Deputy Director of the foundation.

Vadym Karpiak spoke about the origins of the organization:

“In 2018, the leadership of Come Back Alive decided to establish a public organization that would explore opportunities to strengthen Ukraine’s security and defense sector and offer effective, comprehensive solutions. In 2024, this organization evolved into the CBA Initiatives Center.”

Oleh Karpenko discussed the Center’s development:

“In recent years, the organization has significantly expanded its activities: new areas of work have emerged, as well as partnerships with international allies and domestic stakeholders. This created the need for our own communication platforms — including a website and social media channels, one of which is entirely in English — a Twitter account for our English-speaking audience.

The CBA Initiatives Center marks a new stage in the development of the Come Back Alive public organization. It currently unites two main directions — Analytical and Veteran — but overall, anything that contributes to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capability in the medium and long term can be developed under the Center’s responsibility.”

Dialogue and exchange of experience

The second part of the presentation featured a panel discussion with Anton Muraveinyk, Head of the Analytical Department, and Taras Kovalyk, Head of the Veteran Department. The discussion was moderated by Mari Medlovska, Head of Communications at the CBA Initiatives Center.

The participants introduced guests to the projects from both departments, their results, and upcoming goals.

Building a community

After the official part, guests were invited to a networking session to speak directly with members of the Center’s team.
